Laboratory Assistant (Tuesday-Thursday 3pm-9:30pm, Saturday 9-1pm)

This Is What You’ll Do:

• Provide supervision in supervisor’s absence over the operational staff in the laboratory’s sample management area.
• Offer subject matter expertise in SOP development and project initiatives.
• Process, evaluate, and document initial training of sample management tasks for personnel.
• Act as a subject matter expertise consultant for staff encountering barriers within completion of tasks.
• Assist supervisor in ancillary task (i.e. sample and shipping reconciliation, scheduling, center communication)
• Receive and unpack whole blood, plasma and serum samples and paperwork.  Resolve discrepancies.
• Evaluate specimens for acceptability and processes rejection notices per protocols.
• Properly identifies and handles samples requiring laboratory testing.
• Accession data into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) as required.
• Responsible for the timely and accurate transport of specimens.
• Performs specimen processing as required (i.e. centrifugation, aliquoting and volume measure of specimens).
• Provide reagent management support to laboratory by:
• Supply test reagent and consumables to laboratory testing personnel.
• Tracking reagent and raw material inventory receipt, storage and release.
• Organize, maintain and manage reagent and raw material storage.
• Assist in preparation of samples for shipment to outside laboratories.
• Maintain accurate documentation according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
• Organize, maintain and manage sample inventory in freezers and refrigerators.
• Assist with sample retrieval and disposal as required.
• Organize sample shippers for return to donor centers or other recycling.
• Prepare biohazardous waste for pick up.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor, manager or director.

This Is What It Takes:

• High school diploma or equivalent. College level coursework related to laboratory science preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year laboratory experience performing essential job functions required
• Demonstrable skills in basic arithmetic/math, reading and writing. 
• Must be able to read and interpret work area SOPs, labels and safety signs.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to organize work.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities or schedules for completion of tasks.
