We invite you to do the same in this role:Laboratory Assistant (Tuesday-Thursday 3pm-9:30pm, Saturday 9-1pm)
This Is What You’ll Do:- Provide supervision in supervisor’s absence over the operational staff in the laboratory’s sample management area.
- Offer subject matter expertise in SOP development and project initiatives.
- Process, evaluate, and document initial training of sample management tasks for personnel.
- Act as a subject matter expertise consultant for staff encountering barriers within completion of tasks.
- Assist supervisor in ancillary task (i.e. sample and shipping reconciliation, scheduling, center communication)
- Receive and unpack whole blood, plasma and serum samples and paperwork. Resolve discrepancies.
- Evaluate specimens for acceptability and processes rejection notices per protocols.
- Properly identifies and handles samples requiring laboratory testing.
- Accession data into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) as required.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate transport of specimens.
- Performs specimen processing as required (i.e. centrifugation, aliquoting and volume measure of specimens).
- Provide reagent management support to laboratory by:
- Supply test reagent and consumables to laboratory testing personnel.
- Tracking reagent and raw material inventory receipt, storage and release.
- Organize, maintain and manage reagent and raw material storage.
- Assist in preparation of samples for shipment to outside laboratories.
- Maintain accurate documentation according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
- Organize, maintain and manage sample inventory in freezers and refrigerators.
- Assist with sample retrieval and disposal as required.
- Organize sample shippers for return to donor centers or other recycling.
- Prepare biohazardous waste for pick up.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor, manager or director.

- High school diploma or equivalent. College level coursework related to laboratory science preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year laboratory experience performing essential job functions required
- Demonstrable skills in basic arithmetic/math, reading and writing.
- Must be able to read and interpret work area SOPs, labels and safety signs.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to organize work.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities or schedules for completion of tasks.
