Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager of Media Relations to join our Global Corporate Media Relations team at Johnson & Johnson. You will play a hands-on role in driving a cohesive company narrative, building Johnson & Johnson’s reputation through strategic media engagements focused on key business and organizational priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive media relations strategies that align with and advance the Company’s business and organizational priorities.
- Possess, cultivate and maintain strong relationships with reporters; have a demonstrated track record of working with the media across a variety of topics and situations.
- Create compelling media materials, including, press releases, media kits, pitch notes, briefing documents, fact sheets, FAQs, and other materials to support effective storytelling.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the business; collaborating closely with communications teams across the Enterprise, Innovative Medicine and MedTech to develop and implement integrated communications plans and deliver strong outcomes for the company.
- Support executives for media interviews and conduct media training as needed.
- Collaborate with internal teams to prepare timely and effective responses to media inquiries related to issues impacting the business.
- Strategically align press releases, news coverage, and speaker engagements in partnership with business leaders, legal, and the Office of the Corporate Secretary.
- Continuously learn about new media outlets and innovative tools, such as AI, while leveraging data to help inform decisions and strategy.
- Measure, track and report progress on media activations, including demonstrating tangible business outcomes through effective measurement and analytics.
- Monitoring media coverage and industry trends to assess the company's reputation and providing recommendations to senior leadership.
- Help shape and maintain Global Corporate Media Relations Guidelines; ensure consistency across the business.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a closely related field.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 8+ years in communications or media relations, with preference for knowledge/experience in the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and adapt messaging for different audiences.
- Proven track record of independently developing and executing media strategies that advance the company’s business priorities and enhance its reputation.
- Ability to develop compelling messaging, media pitches and statements that effectively communicate complex and nuanced topics in a simple, understandable manner.
- Deep understanding of the media landscape, including traditional media, social media, digital platforms as well as emerging communications outlets.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Ability to build a strong understanding of competitive landscape and corporate priorities that drive business and reputation value.
- A highly organized, self-starter who can prioritize multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Analytical thinker and problem solver who remains calm under pressure, values attention to detail and accountable to deadlines.
