About the role

Lead the technical aspect of the Annual Exterior Color Program

  • Manage new MY color development for manufacturing within cross-functional teams to establish timing responsibilities, facility requirements, and launch
  • Provide test procedures and assess test results for new and carryover colors - CCPS (Critical Color Property -Submission, DOE, PSM (Process Simulation Matrix), and cross-functional risk assessment
  • Work with PDO, Plant, Brand and Program Management to develop color launch timelines for each new color at all NA Paint Shops.
  • Numerical Official Standard creation and database maintenance
  • Provide direction for color harmony on new and carryover colors.
  • Support the launch of new colors at plants.
  • Support new material development.
  • Review changes to existing materials.
  • Provide technical support for topcoat issues.
  • Support appearance initiatives

 

Support the Advanced Process Topcoat Specialist

  • Developing new processes to improve efficiencies (costs, FTC, appearance) and participate in paint tech clubs, benchmarking, competitive review, DOE’s, and process simulations at suppliers as required.
  • Support process development for new model programs by participating with Materials Engineering on the development of new materials, supporting Program Managers and advanced BIW Engineering thru reviews from pre S0 to V1 with Exit Criteria Report and WWR/WWW Report per new vehicle program
  • Providing technical support to process group on plant specific (crisis) new material / process issues through Root Cause Analysis and other problem-solving tools as required
  • Support development of new measurement devices and test procedures through Testing & Verification of prototypes, issue new test procedures.
  • Supporting CMI database by reviewing approval changes for each supplier noted in the data base as required.
  • Administering System 9000 for the Advance Process sections thru review & update of existing documentation as required
  • Guiding new material development to assure process capability by participating with Materials Engineering on the development of new materials as required
  • Providing technical updates to PSOP’s with review and update for each layer technology as required
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Chemistry 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with the design, implementation and operation of paint facilities, process and materials   
  • Lead role in a major plant launch 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills  
  • Strong presentation skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and/or Chemistry 
  • 5+ years of experience in paint manufacturing processes 
  • 3+ years of automotive OEM paint and/ 
  • Knowledge of PFMEA  
  • Knowledge of World Class Manufacturing 
  • Knowledge of Focused Problem Solving
  • Color Matching Accuracy - Mastery in identifying and replicating exact paint colors to achieve seamless finishes on vehicle surfaces using advanced spectrophotometers and color matching software
  • Knowledge of Paint Formulations - Understanding different types of automotive paints, including base coats, clear coats, and primers.
  • Surface Preparation - Proficient techniques in sanding, cleaning, and priming to ensure optimal paint adhesion, durability and finish
  • Quality Control and Inspection - The specialist inspects painted surfaces for consistency, defects, and durability to uphold manufacturer quality requirements
