As a Principal Engineer, Project Engineering on our Interiors team based onsite in Lenexa, KS, you will play a crucial role in leading Oxygen and Passenger Service Unit (PSU) sustaining activities. Your primary responsibility will be to identify and derive solutions to meet customer needs, ensuring seamless and efficient project execution.

You will be responsible for the strategic and tactical execution of an entire program, overseeing all technical, schedule, and financial aspects. They are required to align with the Sustaining Program Chief and Sustaining Engineering Team to assure all programs are properly resourced and provide guidance to team to be sure proper engineering depth and strength is in place.  Strong communication is critical with the ability to interface with Engineering Program Chiefs, Program Managers and Operations Managers across all business areas within Collins Aerospace. The Systems Integrated Product Team (SIPT) is responsible for internal technical project reviews to report status and understand and manage expectations.

What YOU Will Do:

  • Reports directly to OPSU Sustaining Program Chief, Sr. Manager Project Engineering

  • Lead programs to support sustaining at the Lenexa site

  • Responsible for teams executing sustaining projects for oxygen & PSU systems 

  • Provides managerial review and control over multiple disciplines of engineering efforts including technology development

  • Directs activities of engineering or technical personnel involved in designing, fabricating, modifying, or testing products

  • Responsible for managing budget, schedule, and technical performance of projects of a subset of Operational Support (OSE), Field Support (FSE) and Product Improvement (PIN/PIE)

  • Participate in customer facing meetings for multiple customers

  • Participate in Collins product safety board

  • Travel is required up to 10% of the time

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here:  https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

  • Minimum 4 years of project engineering experience

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • Direct technical leadership experience

  • Experience with change management process for new production and field implementation

  • Experience leading and mentoring team in fundamentals of engineering, product design, RCCA, and processes and procedures.

  • Strong business acumen to support setting business and department priorities

  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with MS Office Suite/Microsoft Project highly preferred
