The Role

The Principal Cloud Solution Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, governing, and guiding scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP platforms. This role blends deep technical expertise, architectural leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to drive enterprise-wide cloud adoption strategies and delivery execution.

Key Responsibilities

The Principal Solution Architect, Cloud will have the following key responsibilities, which include but are not limited to:

Architecture & Design

• Design secure, resilient, and high-performance solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Lead multi-cloud architecture decisions and ensure alignment with enterprise standards.
• Define cloud-native, hybrid, and container-based reference architectures.

Strategy & Governance

• Develop and enforce architecture guardrails, IaC standards, tagging, and cost optimization practices.
• Partner with cybersecurity and compliance to ensure cloud solutions meet regulatory requirements (HIPAA, HITRUST, FedRAMP, etc.).
• Guide platform modernization and migration strategies (e.g., data center exit, app refactoring).

Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders, application owners, and delivery teams.
• Lead cloud architecture reviews, design workshops, and governance boards.
• Translate complex business requirements into cloud-native solutions.

Enablement & Innovation

• Mentor cloud engineers and architects; promote DevSecOps and CI/CD best practices.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption roadmaps (e.g., AI/ML, FinOps, SRE frameworks).
• Drive automation, observability, and operational excellence initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Generally, requires a Bachelor's degree and 12 years of related experience or a Master's degree and 8 years of related experience.
• 10+ years of IT architecture experience, with 5+ years in cloud solution architecture.
• Hands-on expertise with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP (certifications strongly preferred).
• Deep knowledge of container platforms (Kubernetes, ECS, AKS, GKE).
• Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, IAM, logging, and cost models.
• Experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Bicep, AWS CDK).

Preferred:

• Experience with multi-cloud governance, service control policies, and landing zones.
• Healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industry experience.
• Cloud architecture certifications (e.g., AWS SA Pro, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, GCP Professional Cloud Architect).

Additional details

• Primarily remote position
• Travel up to 25% of the time, including to the Nordic home office in Madison, WI and client sites when needed.
