Main Function:

• Under general supervision, independently performs a wide range of routine to complex medical laboratory tests, procedures and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
• Tests, procedures and analysis encompass the following areas:
  • histology, hematology, blood bank, serology, immunology, bacteriology, chemistry and coagulation.
• Assists with projects.

 

Required Job Specific Competencies:

• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills for the operation of instrumentation and processing of specimens by both automated and manual methods.
• Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and quality control issues.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently and exhibits flexibility in decision making and prioritizing assignments.
• Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all lab teams and medical staff.
• Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
• Lives the CARES values at all times.
• Performs technical procedures on specimens by manual methods or instrumentation, providing data to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
• Testing processes encompass multiple sections of laboratory.

 

Qualifications

• Preferred MT ASCP certification
• NYS license required

 

Education:

Required B.S. in Medical Technology, or B.S. chemical, biological or physical science with at least one year of pertinent lab experience, OR 90 semester hours in an accredited college meeting NYS MT specific criteria with at least one year of experience or training covering several fields of medical lab work NYS License Required.

 

Experience:  

• Not required but preferred.

 

Pay Range: $32.50 - $42.00

Starting Pay: Based on Experience
