Position Salary Range: $14,512 - $21,767 per month

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $16,500 - $17,700 per month.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Reporting to the Vice President of Administration & Finance, the Associate Vice President of Business Finance (AVP) serves as a key member of the division’s senior leadership team. The AVP oversees the integrity and effectiveness of the university’s financial operations and provides strategic guidance to support institutional goals. This role provides leadership to Accounting Services, the Budget Office, and Procurement & Contracts, ensuring strong financial controls, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and transparent stewardship of university resources.

The AVP works closely with campus executives—including the President, Vice Presidents, Deans, and division leaders—and serves as a liaison to the CSU Chancellor’s Office, the State Controller’s Office, and other external entities.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Administration
    • Oversee daily financial operations across Accounting Services, Budget Office, and Procurement & Contracts.
    • Lead and develop management and staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

    • Implement and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and business process improvements.

    • Ensure compliance with regulatory changes and CSU, GAAP, and GASB standards.

    • Direct preparation of year-end financial statements, audits, and supplier management initiatives.

  • Strategic & Financial Leadership
    • Serve as the chief financial advisor to the Vice President, guiding long-range financial planning and policy development.

    • Oversee financial reporting, cost controls, liquidity analysis, and risk management.

    • Coordinate fiscal planning with campus departments and auxiliaries.

    • Design and maintain financial reporting systems and lead preparation of tax and other required filings.

    • Lead negotiations for major and complex contracts and develop performance metrics for continuous improvement.

  • Committee & Systemwide Engagement
    • Lead or participate in campus financial committees and serve as a liaison to auxiliaries.

    • Represent the campus in CSU systemwide working groups and professional organizations.

    • Collaborate with IT on financial system upgrades and technology initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a closely related field.
    •  Highly trained and effective finance professional with demonstrated expertise in financial management and operations.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in finance or related areas which are to include at least five (5) years of managerial experience overseeing professional staff and leading financial functions within a complex organization.
    • Proven ability to develop and implement financial policies, lead high-performing teams, and manage large-scale financial operations.
