POSITION: Medical Lab Technician

SALARY: $27.85 - $37.64, per hour DOE

REPORTS TO: Clinical Lab Supervisor

LOCATION: Nespelem Health Center; Nespelem, Washington

Basic Functions: The Medical Lab Technician reports to the Clinical Laboratory Supervisor.  This individual operates laboratory equipment in accordance with local, state, and federal standards.  Maintains laboratory equipment and facilities.  Must be qualified and well-versed in relevant matters, be caring, communicative, and experienced in dealing with the public and clinical staff.  Performs laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, identifying, assigning accession numbers, sorting, preparation and internal laboratory distribution of blood, urine, and other biological specimens.  Performs data processing and clerical tasks as required.  This position is located at the Nespelem Tribal Health Center but must be willing to cover at the Omak Tribal Health Clinic as needed.  Our goal for this position is to contribute to the overall patient satisfaction for their laboratory services.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: 

  • Requires High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must currently possess one of the appropriate certification as a MLT granted by the following organizations: 1. American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). ASCP Board of Certification or ASCP Board of Registry. 2. American Medical Technologists 3. American Association of Bioanalysts 4.

  • Non-certified applicants who otherwise met the eligibility requirements for certification may receive a temporary appointment up to full performance level not to exceed two years, as a graduate MLT under the authority of 38 U.S.C §7405 (c)(2) without the option to extend.

  • Requires a valid WA State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.  

  • Requires obtaining IT security clearance as well as HIPAA and Privacy Act certificates.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Requires knowledge of Laboratory and basic human anatomy and terminology. Knowledge of Laboratory office procedures.
  • Requires knowledge and proficiency in RPMS software, i.e., lab packages and electronic health records system. 
  • Requires working knowledge of general administrative practices.
  • Requires ability to participate in team building, and conflict resolution. 
  • Requires sufficient knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation to prepare professional correspondence and write and edit report text.
  • Requires sufficient human relations skill to work productively and cooperatively with other work teams, exercise patience when dealing with internal and external customers, and convey technical concepts.
  • Requires ability to provide exceptional ethical treatment of patients. 
  • Requires ability to display good telephone etiquette. 
  • Requires excellent customer service skills. 
  • Requires exceptional organizational skills.
  • Requires strong computer skills and experience with healthcare databases and applications. 
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to keep detailed records.  
  • Requires the ability to work independently and refer to printed aide sheets.
