Job Description:

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Postdoc Research Associate participates in the development of and execution of highly complex research projects related to novel functional materials and their applications. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments supporting projects, interpreting and reporting on experimental results, developing and delivering public presentations at internal and external venues, and guiding and training others in the conduct of experiments and data interpretation. Additional duties include leading and supporting the development of research proposals, manuscripts for publication, and intellectual property disclosure, as well as maintenance and supervision of the daily operation of the state-of-the-art experimental facilities. The incumbent will demonstrate written and verbal communication skills that will be necessary to produce research products and participate in the mentoring and supervision of several undergraduate and graduate student researchers.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related areas

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with design, synthesis, heat treatment, and characterization of alloys such as shape memory alloys and electrical steels

• Experience with planning, initiating, and executing research activities in collaboration with others, both internal and external to the research group

• Publication of research products, including peer reviewed journal articles or patent applications

• Experience working in a strong team environment and working independently

• Experience developing and closely following activity-specific procedures that are designed to establish a safe work environment

• Working knowledge of standard computer operating systems and computer management to record and manage data for research reports

• Demonstrated understanding of electronic fundamentals through use of electronic instrumentation

• Experience with high throughput processing and characterization

• Experience teaching undergraduate student courses
