Job Title: PPM Line Clearance Liaison --- Lakeland, FL

Job Summary:

Perform inspection of recent line clearance activities to determine compliance with tree trimming specifications and arboriculture industry standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspection of circuits prior to regularly scheduled maintenance trimming by the line clearance contractor for the purpose of determining trees appropriate for removal by the line clearance contract These would generally be trees or tall brush, growing within the utility easement as well as trees on private property that require repeated pruning due to their proximity to the overhead conductors. Work will involve considerable walking out-of-doors requiring a degree of physical endurance.
  • Identification of high risk (hazard trees) for permitting and removal (refer to ANSI A300 Part 9).
  • Notification of customers of pending tree trimming maintenance and/or tree removal
  • Ability to identify local tree species and knowledge of growth rates
  • Reasonable initiative and independent judgment in making tree removal decisions
  • Securing necessary customer permits where required (private property trees).
  • Marking trees  for  removal  (paint  or  flagging)  and  recording  their  location  using circuit maps.
  • Provide assistance  as  needed  for  LE  Line  Clearance  staff  during  storm restoration activities. May include local driving during inclement weather or at night.
  • Perform related work as deemed necessary by LE Line Clearance staff
  • Visual inspection of assigned electric lines to audit completed vegetation management work to ensure compliance with established standards. Work will involve considerable walking out-of-doors requiring a degree of physical endurance.
  • Prepare work orders and maps for all needed rework as found from audited electric lines.
  • Investigate and attempt to resolve customer inquiries or complaints relating to vegetation management issues.
  • Provide assistance as  needed  during  storm restoration activities. May include local driving during inclement weather or at night.
  • Perform related work as deemed necessary by Lakeland Electric Staff.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Five years of experience in the line clearance industry.
  • Supervisory experience (preferred)
  • Map reading skills
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in urban forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, environmental science or related discipline or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, along with possessing and maintaining International Society of Arboriculture Arborist certification and Utility Arborist certification. Utility right of way vegetation management experience preferred.

 Physical Requirements/Job Site Requirements:

  • Must be able to complete hiring paperwork electronically through DocuSign
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid telephone.
  • May be required to work overtime, or alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the department. 
  • Position may be designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.
  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must posses enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
  • Must be able to move in and around confined spaces and uneven areas
  • Must have full range of motion consistent with age
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance ladders
  • Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms and other job-related noises
  • Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces
  • Safety/Steel toe shoes are required.
