Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Utility Technical Design Lead to be based in Los Angeles, California for East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit project.
JOB INFORMATION:
While the position is primarily for East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project, AECOM has an impressive backlog of significant transportation projects in the Greater Los Angeles area and transit/rail projects across West Region and provides exceptional opportunity for professional growth. Projects may include the design of urban and rural roadways, interstate highways, interchanges, design-build and more. This position is for a hybrid working scenario allowing for in-office collaboration sessions as well as remote work.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Co-Lead development of technical design plans, specifications and estimates with Utility Design Discipline Lead and serve as lead engineer on mid-size projects for all aspects of utility studies, relocation and new design on large scale roadway, transit, and multi-modal projects for public transportation clients.
- Identify utility conflicts and assist with leading resolution meetings with the Contractor and LA Metro. Coordinate with the Contractor and third-party stakeholders.
- Prepares status reports and maintain tracking log for issues and resolutions.
- Preparation of design reports including design study reports, and technical memorandums.
- Coordination with project stakeholders including contractors, utility companies, and permitting agencies.
- Serve as a Senior technical resource and technical advisor for team.
- Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
- Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.
- Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors in engineering from an accredited university
- 10+ total years of experience
- 8+ years of previous design experience in preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) for new utilities, relocation of existing utilities.
- Current working experience with design software Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Knowledge of the City of Los Angeles, and County of Los Angeles Storm Drain and Sewer Design Manuals, Federal Statutes, and California State Statutes.
- Familiarity with 3rd Party Utility Companies such as Los Angeles Department Water and Power, Southern California, Southern California Edision, ATT & Franchise Utility Purveyor procedures and coordination
- Experience reviewing utility/railroad designs to ensure compliance with utility/railroad design standards.
- A general understanding of land survey principles, and the ability to read and plot legal descriptions.
- Ability to work with various multi-disciplined teams is essential to this role.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and the ability to speak knowledgeably with other consultants, stakeholders, other governmental agencies, and individual citizens.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to track large data sets, and the ability to illustrate, analyze and convey those data sets effectively.
- Familiarity with MS Office 2010 software (Excel, Word, Project) is required.
- Good oral and written communication skills and ability to work as a team.
