About the Role
CharterUP is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to architect, implement, and own a wide variety of customer-facing software systems powering our two-sided marketplace business. You’ll work closely with our engineering leaders, product managers, and engineering team to design and build systems that will scale with our rapidly growing business needs. You will lead a wide variety of technology initiatives across multiple disciplines, including Web Applications, REST API Services, Mobile Apps, Data Engineering, and DevOps.
Title: Staff Software Engineer
Reports to: Director, Engineering
Location: This position is based in Austin, TX (Hybrid: Monday, Wednesday, Friday in-office).
What You’ll Do
Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable front-end applications using modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue)
Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive and responsive user interfaces
Collaborate with back-end engineers to define and integrate APIs
Define and promote software engineering best practices
Foster a culture of continuous improvement including mentorship of junior engineers
Lead technical vision and direction, using your expertise to guide tough decisions
What You’ll Bring
8-12+ years of experience as a professional fullstack or front-end focused software engineer
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and TypeScript with experience in modern frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue)
Strong understanding of web performance optimization and responsive design principles
Demonstrated ability to lead projects from concept to deployment, working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
You are a coder that loves to be hands-on, leading the charge on complex projects
Comfortable taking ownership end-to-end of deliverables
