Your role at Baxter

At Baxter, we are deeply connected by our mission to save and sustain lives. As a Principal Facilities Engineer at the Round Lake site, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable, safe, and compliant operation of a 24/7 manufacturing facility. This position blends facilities engineering leadership with strong controls and automation expertise, owning key utility systems, driving operational excellence, and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

What you will be doing

  • Provide engineering ownership and technical support for plant utility systems, including HVAC, boilers, chillers, steam generation, compressed air, RO water, and fire protection systems
  • Serve as the technical owner of the Building Management System (BMS), including system performance, optimization, solving, and continuous improvement
  • Develop, implement, and manage preventive, predictive, and calibration maintenance programs using Maximo
  • Support and train Facilities Technicians in fixing, controls, and equipment repairs
  • Create, maintain, and review facility drawings, control schematics, and maintenance procedures
  • Lead or support facility capital projects, equipment upgrades, and structural improvements
  • Partner with Facilities and Operations teams to plan and complete plant shutdown activities
  • Monitor construction and contractor activities to ensure safety, quality, cost, and schedule targets are met
  • Support plant safety, environmental, and EMS initiatives, including ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and OHSAS 18001
  • Own regulatory and environmental compliance activities, including:
  • Stormwater and Tier II Right‑to‑Know reporting
  • Permit management and audit readiness
  • Lead site energy management efforts, analyzing usage trends and driving reduction initiatives
  • Manage waste streams and identify continuous improvement and sustainability opportunities
  • Ensure building interior and exterior conditions meet site and regulatory standards
  • Oversee site service contractors, including cleaning and pest control

What you will bring

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Discipline or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of Controls engineering background with hands‑on experience supporting facility utility systems
  • Must not be allergic to Penicillin or Cephalosporins.
  • Experience with quality systems/ISO requirements.
  • Experience in Medical, Pharmaceutical manufacturing environment preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with controls systems and Building Management Systems (BMS) in an industrial environment
  • Ability to read and interpret control, process, and electrical schematics
  • Experience developing and sustaining CMMS‑based maintenance strategies
  • Working knowledge of environmental, safety, and regulatory compliance in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to lead projects, manage contractors, and support multi-functional teams
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or 3D modeling tools
  • A proactive, continuous‑improvement approach aligned with Baxter’s mission and values

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $112,000 - $154,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.  For questions about this
