Responsibilities

The Director of Development for the College of Humanities is a member of the University Relations and Advancement team, reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Development Programs. Working in consultation and close coordination with the AVP and Dean, the Director of Development is responsible for designing and carrying out a comprehensive fund development program aimed at identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects and donors for major gifts at and above $25,000 to support priority areas within the college, including its diverse and multi-cultural academic departments, programs and centers.

• As a member of the University Relations and Advancement team, the Director of Development is responsible for working in a collegial and supportive manner with other university and college-based directors of development and working with donors to maximize their giving to any or all areas of the university.

• Writes and/or supervises the writing of proposals, supporting documents and other correspondence.
• Engages in prospect development for the College through outreach and research
• Works with volunteers and community members, helps coordinate cultivation events and conducts other activities as assigned.
• Coordinates with CSUN's annual giving program and CSUN's office of donor relations
• Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts of $25,000 or more by making at least 120 donor visits, submitting at least 20 well-positioned solicitations of $25,000 or more, and closing at least 8 major gift commitments valued at $25,000 or more for a total to be determined on an annual basis.
• Oversee and organize special cultivation and fundraising events for the College.
• Foster a culture of philanthropy among staff and volunteers and collaborate closely with the Dean to ensure staff and volunteer involvement in all development efforts.
• Maintain a culture of communication within the college, Advancement division, donors and volunteers.
• Ensure best practices and procedures are followed related to data management and prospect management.
• Responsible for working in consistent alignment with the “Fundraising at CSUN” guidelines and works collaboratively with the college administration, faculty and volunteers in priority areas and with URA colleagues and key administrators in support of initiatives that may be university-wide.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a job-related field. 
• Five to seven years of progressively responsible professional fundraising experience in a university development program, non-profit organization, or equivalent experience, preferably with a focus on the social and behavioral sciences.
