JOB SUMMARY
Hamilton Medical Center (HMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hamilton Healthcare System, Inc. (“HHCS”). HMC Family Medicine Residency Program was created as part of a grant program through the state of Georgia to meet the long-term community need for physicians within the Dalton, Georgia and surrounding communities. The Family Medicine Residency Program is a training clinic for residents within the system. Many residents stay in the same location that they trained for independent practice.
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician and/or resident, including preparing patients to be seen by the physician and/or resident. Assists with patient phone calls, prescription refills, referrals, and prior authorizations. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height) and records information in patients’ charts. May be required to collect blood samples, tissue or other laboratory specimens and prepare them for testing. Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets and physician’s instructions to patients. Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures related to the practice. Follows standard procedures and/or written instructions to perform job duties. Assists with business operations, clerical, medical records management, reception, and patient scheduling as needed. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure achievement of team, individual, and corporate goals. Provides support to team members and performs other duties as required.
To perform nursing services and set standards to assure professional, skilled program of care and treatment is administered in a physician office setting. Responsible for accommodating the needs of the physician by controlling patient flow, preparing patients for exams and aiding physician with routine procedures.
Qualifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing, or completion of Certified Medical Assistant Program.
Licensure: Current CPR certification required. Graduated from a Medical Assistant program, accredited by the Commission on accreditation of Allied Health Education Program preferred. Test and pass the National Certification exam (AAMA, NHA, NCCT) to be certified as Medical Assistant required. OR Current LPN License in the State of Georgia.
Experience: 1 -2 years in a physician office practice or hospital preferred.
Job Skills:
Good oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians, advanced practitioners and staff members. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions, policies, guidelines and standards. Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Intermediate Proficiency level with Microsoft Office: Word and Excel.
Nursing skills as defined in the Law Governing the Practice of Nursing in Georgia
Physical, Mental, Environmental and Working Conditions
Busy office environment with normal levels of noise and numerous interruptions. Ability to work under pressure, visualizes objectives and analytical problem-solving deadlines. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
