Summary
At DSV, the Senior Manager, Specialized Operations will oversee, lead and optimize our specialized operations, consisting of local and over-the-road planning and dispatch. This is for company drivers, owner operators and 3rd party providers. This Senior Manager, Specialized Operations will be responsible for managing teams of operations managers and Supervisors, including their teams of planners and dispatchers, and ensuring efficient coordination of transportation services across various locations. This role requires strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of logistics and transportation management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize planning and dispatch operations, improve efficiency, and meet business objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of operations managers and supervisors to ensure they perform at their best and meet performance targets.
- Continuously assess and improve planning and dispatch processes and workflows to streamline operations and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet demand and ensure timely delivery of services while optimizing costs.
- Play a key part in pricing both existing and new business, ensuring profitable revenue growth.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including but not limited to safety regulations, labor laws, DOT, and transportation regulations.
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize planning and dispatch software and technology solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy in dispatch operations.
- Coach, educate and lead employees on all facets of the operation, including technical and financial knowledge.
- Manage and work with company drivers, optimizing their workflow and ensuring proper education of specialized equipment and appropriate handling.
- Focus on quality within the operation, ensuring processes are in place, adhered to and executed.
- Be a key resource to train any member (internal or external) on the details of the specialized equipment needed to successfully perform what is required.
- Take accountability for proper planning of freight, including the selection of the appropriate equipment needed, and drivers available (company, owner operator, 3rd party) to execute the operation successfully.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and measure the performance of planning and dispatch operations. Take corrective actions as necessary to address any issues or deviations from targets.
- Collaborate with vendors and third-party service providers to ensure seamless coordination of transportation services and maintain positive relationships.
