Job Description
You are a DevOps engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment, you desire to be challenged each and every day, and you enjoy working with brilliant people to deliver innovative solutions such as precisionFDA and the UK Biobank Platform. You want to apply your skills to make the world a better place. You have real-world experience maintaining and improving cloud-based solutions that delight users or someone who is less experienced but eager to learn new things. While you are ideally an expert with real world experience managing cloud-based solutions, we are just as glad if you are a junior engineer with a desire to learn on the job. You are familiar with Linux administration, Bash and AWS. You also have a decent knowledge of monitoring and logging systems. You like working with smart customers to solve complex problems that matter.

- Do you live and breathe DevOps and stay up to date with new developments? Or do you wish to switch your backend developer career into DevOps?
- Are you a solid SW Engineer with interest in AWS or Azure clouds?
- Are you excited about expressing infrastructure as code?
- Do you enjoy turning complexity into clarity with metrics and data visualization?
- Want to also help accelerate the pace of genomics and disease research?
What you will be helping with:
- Help with high availability and scalability of our large-scale cloud system (we run thousands of servers mostly in AWS)
- Developing our internal tool for communication with our platform
- Push automation whenever possible
- Maintain and upgrade our current cloud infrastructure
- Improving security of our platform
- Make recommendations on how to improve our platform and workflow
- Documenting new procedures with precision on our Ops wiki
Technologies and Tools of focus:
- AWS (lots of services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Route53, SQS, etc.)
- Docker
- MongoDB
- Python
- Terraform
- Prometheus + Grafana
- Splunk
- GitHub Actions
Qualifications
- B.S. or higher in Computer Science or related field or applicable experience
- Software development in a high-level programming language such as Python, Node.js, etc.
- Must be capable of writing clean, well-structured code
- Skilled in writing and maintaining complex bash scripts
- Linux Server system administration experience in a large-scale cloud-based environment. AWS or Azure preferred.
- Familiarity with Docker and container orchestration solutions such as Kubernetes, etc.
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Have an insatiable appetite for technology
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual starting salary for this position is between $185,000 – $210,000. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
