Job Summary

On-site Teaching Position in the Morgan County Correctional Complex facility; Full-time with Benefits; Some overnight travel and evening work may be required.

Job Duties

  • Instruct justice-involved students in technical training to prepare them to re-enter the job market in the building construction field through lecture, demonstrations, and/or audio-visual aids. - (Essential)
  • Prepare and/or revise syllabi of courses of study with detailed lesson plans. - (Essential)
  • Administer assessments to evaluate student progress. - (Essential)
  • Maintain student academic records and submit reports related to the program (i.e., grades, attendance, discipline, etc.). - (Essential)
  • Attend workshops and/or other training programs to remain current in the building construction industry. Overnight travel may be required. - (Essential)
  • Conduct and/or attend meetings, day and/or evening, with business and industry to develop working relationships with building construction industry personnel. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

Associate Degree or Diploma from an accredited technical training program in the occupation to be taught.
Three years of related industry work experience in the construction industry within the last five years.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

Industry-recognized certifications and/or license in the field or the ability to become certified within the first year of employment.
Teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

High degree of knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry.
Knowledge of NCCER.
Organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher.
Willingness to remain current through continued education in the occupation to be taught.
Potential ability in instruction.
Strong, moral character, mature attitude, and stable personality.
Networking skills with ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, related business, industry, and Department of Corrections personnel.
Time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
Self-starter; ability to work with limited supervision.

Salary:  Commensurate with Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology salary guidelines.

*Applicants selected for an interview will be required to tour the Morgan County Correctional Complex.
