We are seeking an experienced Paediatric Nurse who has an ITU/HDU Critical Care qualification to join our HDU service at UHB. You must be confident and competent to deliver clinical care, lead the team, coordinate the service and support colleagues to develop.
This is a temporary 1-year post and the successful candidate will work alongside the current HDU lead nurse.
UHB have a large Paediatric service ran by a dynamic, talented, friendly team and we deliver high quality, compassionate care in a safe environment to children in our local community and beyond. We currently have a 4 bedded, Level 2, HDU service at Heartlands Hospital and a HDU stabilisation bed at Good Hope hospital. Our team work across both sites to provide HDU care to acutely unwell and chronically ill children and work closely with internal and external teams.
You must be an effective communicator, be confident when managing and supporting people and always be a professional role model. We require someone who is positive about change, focused on patient safety and has a keen attitude to learning. We are in the process of expanding our service, so this is an exciting time to join and enhance your leadership skills.
Within this role there will be a requirement for you to work clinically and complete nonclinical management shifts. You will participate in the Senior Nurse Rota for Paediatrics Monday- Friday alongside our experienced Band 7 team.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
We are looking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Paediatric nurse, who is proactive and has proven clinical and people management skills.
You will need to be an organised, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and inspirational leadership skills, alongside having the passion and ability to deliver high quality care to a diverse population. You will act as a role model for the nursing team across the Paediatric services, promoting a positive attitude and motivating staff members to deliver compassionate care whilst developing themselves professionally.
You will join an established senior nursing team who will support you to develop professionally. You will work alongside them to manage children's services on a day-to-day basis, utilising your Paediatric expertise, critical thinking skills and ensuring performance and standards are monitored. Participation in a weekly on call rota, Mon-Friday working hours.
Operational management duties include maintaining a safe, clean environment, monitoring and improving ward and departmental performance, budget control, clinical governance and supporting staff wellbeing, training and providing pastoral care. The post holder is professionally accountable for the standards of clinical care delivered within their ward environment, they will undertake and supervise clinical practice, audit, research and participate in teaching to establish, monitor and continually improve the quality of the patient experience.
