Overview

The Director, Data Engineering will be responsible for leading the implementation and evolution of Planet Fitness’ enterprise data platform. This position will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to define and implement an enterprise data strategy aligned to strategic business goals and objectives. The Director, Data Engineering will also be responsible for leading and developing a high performing team of engineers responsible for rapidly building, testing, and scaling transformational data solutions which drive incremental business value, while also embracing change and a continuous improvement mindset.

 

For team collaboration purposes, the ideal candidate currently resides in the CST or EST time zone.

Responsibilities

  • Grow, lead, and develop a high performing team responsible for architecting, designing, developing, and implementing an enterprise data platform used to produce high quality data solutions that meet strategic business goals and deliver business results.
  • Evaluate and implement new data technologies to meet the growing needs of the business while ensuring fit within a larger technology ecosystem and technology strategy.
  • Create and execute team development plans focused on data engineering best practices, capabilities, technologies, processes, and standards.
  • Work closely with various internal and external stakeholders to clarify business requirements, remove roadblocks, and align business vision into data strategy and solutions.
  • Support the delivery of large, complex projects to completion to achieve key business objectives.
  • Implement streamlined data development software, processes, and methodologies to deliver data solutions quickly, accurately, securely, and at scale.
  • Lead the adoption of data management best practices and enables data governance and master data management best practices to ensure data quality and consistency with a focus on continuous delivery and integration.
  • Ensure data architectures, technologies, and delivery methodologies can support changing business conditions and reduce time to market.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify complex data engineering challenges and create innovative solutions.
  • Lead and execute initiatives to optimize data warehouse performance, while also ensuring cloud technology cost management.
  • Effectively manage vendors toward established goals to deliver solutions on time and on budget.
  • Participate in executive, stakeholder, and cross-functional communications and planning meetings producing clear, summarized content appropriate to the level of the audience.
  • Manage strategic data priorities and projects through ambiguity, adversity, and conflict to establish focus and deliver against business goals.
  • Work within budget, maintain resource allocation plans, and evaluate new partners, their statements of work, and their services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or relevant equivalent experience required
