The Expeditionary Systems Engineering Division (ESED) is a component of Corona Division, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). ESED performs full spectrum life cycle engineering and test support to verify the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of Expeditionary Warfare systems. The primary function of ESED is to provide In-Service Engineering and Test and Evaluation for the Department of Defense (DoD). As part of this function, ESED conducts test operations at regional Southern California ranges such as Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and at multiple DoD ranges across the United States. This task sets forth the requirements for technical services related to testing to include test planning, test execution, test support, test operations and associated logistics. These services are in support of a wide variety of systems across their life cycle, which include ESED's main focus areas such as Arms, Ammunition, Explosives, Weapons Systems, and associated platforms utilized by the Expeditionary Warfare community. ESED’s secondary focus areas such as Sensors and Communications, Mobility Platforms, Systems Integration, and Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment with unique military applications; and other new or existing systems that require independent testing for Expeditionary Warfare.

 

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Engineering Technician V provides test planning, test execution, test support, test operations, and associated logistics support on the Test Operations Support Services (TOSS) contract. This position is located in Fallbrook, CA.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in the planning, execution, and completion of ESED weapons test and evaluation event providing logistical and material operational support, such as test planning, data collection, liaison with military units, etc.
  • Conduct handling actions such as: assembly of explosive devices/components, operating of semiautomatic and automatic weapons, firing live ammunition, and post-firing breakdown/cleaning/servicing of ammunition, arms, and explosives. Using electronic theodolites to lay-in mortars, infantry weapons, field artillery, and other weapon systems and ancillary equipment.
  • Perform set up, laying, loading, and firing of indirect, infantry, missile/rocket and other weapon systems. Includes cleaning and operator level preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct live fire range support to include but not limited to, manning observation posts, range clean-up, range test setup/breakdown, range maintenance, and removal of unexpended, expended, and waste munitions. Using M2 Aiming Circles and similar devices to observe impact and initiation of indirect fire ordnance.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited university required. 
  • 10+ years of military experience is generally needed to be successful in this position.
  • 10+ years of professional technical /specialized experience in the development and evaluation/testing of major weapons systems.
  • Prior experience with Navy and/or Marine Corps systems to include providing technical support to energetics/explosives or weapons systems programs; and at least five (5) years providing project management oversight for Navy ordnance environmental and explosives safety programs.
  • Must have direct or similar experience with the DoN Explosives Safety inspection (shore station and shipboard) processes, including Explosives Safety performance metric tools and related database maintenance, technical management support, inspection scheduling efficiency development, data collection and report and chart generation from centralized databases and web-based applications.
