POSITION SUMMARY: The Itinerant Library Media Specialist will be assigned to Evergreen Middle School in the Federal Way School District. The librarian schedule will be determined at the time the position is offered to a candidate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. - Instruct students in selecting appropriate books and resources, locating information, and reading for comprehension and meaning.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of library management systems, including patron and collection databases; prepare and maintain records related to circulation, distribution, book orders, new acquisitions, lost or damaged materials, overdue items, purchase orders, and student and staff use of media and audiovisual resources.
- Coordinate and provide training for library assistants, volunteers, and student aides.
- Manage the financial, technological, and physical resources of the library media program.
- Collaborate with administrators and teachers in budgeting, program planning, and the acquisition, circulation, distribution, and recovery of library and media materials, including the processing and preparation of new resources for circulation.
- Serve as a resource to staff, students, and families by providing guidance in library media skills, including the identification, selection, location, and effective use of instructional and recreational materials.
- Maintain library and textbook inventories at assigned sites, including checking materials in and out, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Current Washington State Teacher's Certificate with appropriate subject area endorsement(s)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Criminal background clearance
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Computer programs such as circulation systems, databases, word processing, etc.
Current trends and practices in education
Instructional theory and its application
Techniques to motivate student learning via inquiry, discussion, and application of knowledge
Organizing the physical and human elements in the educational setting
Instructional and non-instructional human dynamics
Standards-based instruction and familiarity with Washington State standards
School board policies and procedures

Operate a variety of modern office equipment including microcomputers and related software.
