Job Description
Summary
The Lab Technician I will, with adequate training, prepare samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' SOPs. Work under the direction of a supervisor and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. Always follow safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe working environment.
Job Functions
- After appropriate training independently prepare samples for analysis according to SGS’ analytical SOPs using basic instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies
- Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration of prep instruments/equipment
- Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations.
- Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
- Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Assist in setting up projects for the Research laboratory including germination studies, seed treatment application studies and physical testing of treated seed
- Assist the lab in data collection and entry for projects, including entering results into spreadsheets and creating reports for projects.
- Assist in treating and packaging seed for external studies
- Help with inventory management of the research lab supplies and several seed inventory projects
- Ideally, Applicant would have SD Commercial Pesticide Applicator license or the ability to get within 3 months of employment. SGS would provide the means to get this if needed
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories seed or biological laboratory or prior experience working with one’s hands
- Associates Degree in a Chemistry , Biological or Agricultural Science or similar scientific discipline or similar scientific discipline
