The Processing, Guidance & Control Cross-Product Center is responsible for algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing (SP); and missile- and sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for Raytheon's broad portfolio of projects, programs, and products. In the GNC department, we design, integrate, and optimize effector guidance, tracking, navigation, and estimation algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps.
The PG&C Center is currently hiring a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - Software and Performance Lead position in Tucson, AZ within the Advanced Hypersonic Warfare SSBU that is part of the Advanced Technologies SBU. As a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - Software and Performance Lead you will be a technical and programmatic team leader on a hypersonic weapon program responsible for iterative hardware and software improvements of an existing design to support progression towards production and fielding.
In this role, you will report to the Program Manager and provide technical leadership, management, and oversight of a multidisciplinary team of more than 40 engineers as the program goes through ground and flight test execution and operationally traceable simulated performance assessments. This position is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.
What You Will Do
- Plan, manage, and report on budget and schedule performance, including responsibility for Earned Value Management (EVM), development of and alignment with the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and coordination with program planning and finance teams.
- Lead cross-functional engineering teams through the design implementation and verification phases, including ground and flight testing and simulated performance assessments, ensuring technical, cost, and schedule objectives are met.
- Shape the system implementation and execution, using inputs from engineering disciplines to make informed decisions that ensure design compliance, performance, and alignment with customer mission needs.
- Represent Systems Engineering and overall technical execution to Raytheon program leadership, the Office of the Chief Engineer, and multiple integrated product teams (IPTs), ensuring consistency, coordination, and execution across the program.
- Maintain regular communication with Raytheon leadership, reporting program status, accomplishments, challenges, and resource needs, while driving collaboration and alignment across all technical sub-teams.
- Engage directly with customer stakeholders, including acquisition and technical communities, to shape, interpret, and negotiate development of the system.
- Mentor and support engineering team members, facilitating knowledge sharing, technical decision-making, and engagement of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) where needed to resolve complex issues.
- Apply experience in system-level design, integration, and verification, leading technical reviews, managing risk, and ensuring traceability and compliance throughout the engineering development process.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related STEM degree and a minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience
- Engineering experience in missile system applications to include at least three of the following:
- Digital and/or modern control systems
- Trajectory design and optimization
- GPS/INS navigation systems, sensors, and algorithms
- Monte Carlo analysis
- Development and/or simulation of physical systems
- RF Signal processing
- Kalman filter design
