The Global Mobility Specialist is a critical member of the Global Mobility team responsible for supporting the organization’s global mobility and immigration compliance. This position requires a keen understanding of immigration law and policy, a proactive approach to monitoring the evolving legal and geopolitical landscapes, and the ability to manage relationships with external counsel and government agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Liaison with External Counsel and Government Agencies:
- Serve as the primary contact point between the organization, internal and external immigration counsel, facilitating communication and collaboration on complex cases.
- Prepare summaries of legal opinions, recommendations, and case status updates received from external counsel for internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate meetings, document exchanges, and procedural steps with attorneys, experts, and external advisors.
- Engage with relevant stakeholders- internal and external, like Iegal, external counsel, government agencies to resolve issues and expedite application processing.
Monitoring Immigration related Government Guidelines:
- Continuously monitor changes and updates to immigration laws, regulations, government guidelines, and administrative procedures impacting the organization’s operations in all jurisdictions of interest.
- Review legislative updates, policy briefings, and regulatory circulars, providing concise and actionable summaries to the legal and HR teams.
- Ensure organizational policies, templates, and procedures are updated in accordance with new legal requirements.
- Act as an internal resource for queries regarding immigration procedures, compliance obligations, and policy interpretation
Geopolitical and Legal Landscape Analysis:
- Track and analyze developments in the geopolitical sphere—such as bilateral agreements, international sanctions, and major policy shifts—that may influence immigration frameworks or employee mobility.
- Prepare periodic reports and risk assessments on evolving global trends, presenting findings to senior management.
- Support business continuity planning by flagging potential legal or political risks related to immigration and cross-border movement.
Immigration Case Management:
- Assist in the preparation and submission of immigration applications, including work permits, visas, permanent residence, and citizenship on behalf of employees and their dependents.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of immigration cases and employee statuses, ensuring timely updates and accurate record-keeping.
- Coordinate with HR and mobility teams to support onboarding, mobility, and relocation processes, providing legal guidance on immigration requirements.
- Track deadlines for expiring documents and initiate renewal processes as needed.
Compliance to Global Mobility Polcies and Risk Management:
- Ensure all company policies and procedures related to immigration matters comply with local, national, and international requirements.
- Assist in internal and external audits by compiling documentation and responding to regulatory inquiries.
- Identify potential compliance issues and escalate them appropriately for resolution.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive employee information and legal documents.
Training and Knowledge Sharing:
- Develop and deliver internal training sessions on immigration compliance, legal guidelines, and documentation procedures for HR and mobility teams.
- Maintain a repository of reference materials, templates, and process maps accessible to relevant teams.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing by creating newsletters, emails and other communications concerning major legal or policy changes.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in law, political science, international relations, or a related field; paralegal certification is strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in immigration law, preferably within a multinational corporate environment or a top-tier law firm.
