The Test Equipment Engineering (TEE) directorate is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer who can lead a section of Mechanical Engineering professionals responsible for all elements of mechanical engineering design through all lifecycles to include but not limited to development, transition to production, design verification, qualification, and manufacturing acceptance of final product going to the customer.  

This is an on-site role in Tucson, Arizona.

What You Will Do

  • Supervise and lead a team of approximately 10 – 20 members
  • Establish meaningful and measurable goals and communicate effectively with your team to ensure alignment with the department and directorate
  • Conduct formal and informal performance reviews and career development discussions with team members
  • Lead by example while adhering to and ensuring alignment with our Values and Behaviors: Trust, Respect, Collaboration, Innovation, and Accountability. 
  • The Section Lead role is anticipated to be approximately 15% of the work week, with the remainder of the work week charged to program contracts within the TEE organization.   
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams in the operation, testing, and troubleshooting of systems
  • Provide independent health checks by evaluating program’s metrics. 
  • Interact with Program Managers, Chief Engineers, Cross Product Team/Directorate Leads, as well as other functional management to drive results to achieve program and business unit objectives. 
  • Support Test Equipment Engineering team's hiring goals as well as lead the onboarding of new section personnel.  

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of eight (8) years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in Earned Value Management System (EVMS) 
  • Experience in a leadership role (people or projects)
  • Experience presenting to leadership and peers
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced STEM degree from an ABET accredited institution
  • Previous experience with career development and personal skills development of team members 
  • Experience developing test equipment for production test environments 
  • Experience with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools with an emphasis on ProE / CREO Parametric 
  • Experience working in Agile development process 
  • Experience working with Program Management principles and tools such as IMS, PMX tools, or tracking books
