Work Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week, primarily M-F days.

Coordinate and direct education and onboarding of new and existing staff. Assist staff development nurses and clinical nurse educator Assess the baseline competency (e.g. critical thinking, clinical skills, etc.) of the newly hired clinical staff based on current evidence based research and in compliance with regulatory requirements. Assist with providing staff with evidence based unit specific education to ensure annual and ongoing skills and competencies are met.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions        

Establish an ongoing learning assessment process, in conjunction with the management team, to identify and plan appropriate staff development programs. (Quality Improvement, Professional Development, Autonomy) (25%)

  • Directs and coordinates with Staff Development Nurses, Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurses and/or Service Leaders to conduct an annual educational needs assessment and analysis of performance improvement data.

  • Assists in the development of action plans to improve the quality of care.

  • Coordinates and provides education to staff for specific learning needs to enhance competency in a cost-effective manner.

  • Promotes critical thinking and research to enhance professional daily practice.

  • Participates in continuing education and remains current on issues related to process.

Serves as a role model for staff through expert knowledge and application of nursing process, prioritization of patient problems, and critical thinking skills. (Quality of Care, Image of Nursing, Autonomy) (25%)

  • Acts as a change agent to improve outcomes and promote professional growth by facilitating/coordinating the initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change.

  • Assess daily routines of staff to promote patient safety and enhance efficiency of completing job requirements.

  • Assists staff in identifying processes that promote high quality, cost-effective patient care.

Orientation of new staff to the organization. (20%)

  • Coordinates orientation process in partnership with Staff Development Nurses, Clinical Nurse Educators. Preceptors, and Service Leaders

  • Partner with Staff Development Nurses, Clinical Experts, and/or Service Leaders to facilitate competency development in critical thinking, communication, and technical skills.

  • Assists new employees in skill building.

  • Facilitates competency development of nurses transitioning to a staff development role.

Use adult learning principles to validate clinical skills of patient delivery staff to ensure competent and safe care.  (10%)

  • Utilize department specific checklist to ensure correct competencies are assessed.

  • Review clinical skills assessment with each employee

  • Maintain skills for all clinical areas being assessed to ensure proper staff education.

  • Report on deficient areas with departmental management to ensure proper follow up and skill development

  • Provide input on policy, procedure, and critical elements.

  • Ensure all staff schedules are accommodated by altering available hours for assessment as needed.

  • Maintain, update skills lab equipment and supplies to meet the needs of the Health System.

Initiate individualized educational plan using role specific education topics in the Learning Management System (LMS) (10%)

  • Ensure staff log on information is active and work with internal departments to resolve issues.

  • Teach staff how to use LMS and instruct on courses required for deadline dates.

  • Review employee transcripts in LMS to ensure 100% completion of department specific requirements prior to leaving the Lea
