Description

Provides support and guidance to the therapist in regards to the consumer’s mental health and behavioral needs. Participates in the analyzing of consumers screenings and intake process, acts as a liaison between other community mental health providers and provides psychiatric assessments and evaluation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (when functioning to offset the psychiatrist hours) provides: 

  • Assess and treat mental illnesses through a combination of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and medication.
  • Provide regularly scheduled caseload consultation to assigned therapist.
  • Provide telephonic consultation to primary care physicians as request, focusing on patients.
  • Suggest treatment plan changes including medication recommendations for patients who are not improving as expected.
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments and evaluations
  • Provide medication therapy to consumers or consultation to community providers.
  • Act as liaison with psychiatric hospitals providing emergency back-up and inpatient care.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment
  • Provides crisis intervention for walk in clients as necessary.
  • Provides education and assistance to the therapist in time of crisis.
  • Attends appropriate training and in-service seminars in accordance with agency requirements.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner should hold a current NYS NP License, a current DEA license and will have experience treating children, adolescents and adults. Board eligibility or certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must maintain valid driver’s license and provide proof of COVID Vaccination. Must maintain current New York State Physician’s license and DEA license.
