Summary Description:   

AeroTEC’s Test & Evaluation Department provides comprehensive flight-testing and evaluating services to customers in aircraft design and certification. The Test & Evaluation Department is responsible for test planning, instrumentation, ground operation and flight operations to meet customer needs. The Test & Evaluation Department provides expertise in Flight Test Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering and Installation, Test Pilot Support, Telemetry Operations and Flight Dispatch.  The Test & Evaluation Department also manages the AeroTEC Flight Test Center (AFTC). 

The Mechanic position is responsible for servicing, repairing, troubleshooting of aircraft and aircraft engines. This includes replacing and rebuilding aircraft structures and systems as well as assembling and installing electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, structural components and accessories. The Mechanic must understand FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations and technical data relevant to assigned projects.  

 

As a SkillBridge Mechanic, not FAA certificated, you will be working under direct supervision of a certificate mechanic. The goal is to get you a repairman certificate leading to the FAA A&P certificate. 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): 

  • Service, repair, troubleshoot and overhaul aircraft and aircraft engines.  

  • Repair, replace and rebuild aircraft structures, system and functional components.  

  • Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, structural components and accessories using hand tools and power tools.  

  • Adjust, align and calibrate aircraft systems using hand tools, gauges and test equipment, machines and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet gun and drills.  

  • Research and understand FAA technical data relevant to assigned tasks.  

  • Maintain the premises and the repair station in a clean and organized manner.  

  • Remove and/or install aircraft components, test IAW MM, and troubleshoot aircraft systems.  

Qualifications

Who can apply for this program:

DoDI 1322.29 lists general eligibility requirements as:

  • Service members may participate within 180 days of being discharged or released from active duty and service members must have served 180 continuous days on active duty.
  • Approval authority rests with the first field grade commander authorized to impose non-judicial punishment under Article 15 of the UCMJ in the service member's chain of command.
  • Such commanders may approve or disapprove participation by a service member based upon unit mission requirements.

Level Requirements (Minimum): 

Education: 

  • Associate’s Degree (or Technical School equivalent) in Aircraft Maintenance or related field from an FAA accredited school. 

  • Preferred A & P Licensed (not required).

  • Legacy experience and training record from the Armed forces will help securing repairman certificate. 

 

Experience: 

  • Three (3) plus years of aircraft mechanical experience.
