Job Summary: Responsible for laboratory workflows and the overall management and scheduling of Laboratory staff. Assists the Laboratory Manager with developing and maintaining appropriate quality assurance and management programs throughout the laboratory functions. Responsible for monitoring the recording and reporting of test results and ensuring regulatory compliance. Engages in efficient processing of assigned tasks and projects while providing an exceptional level of customer service for all hospital patients, clients, and staff. Assists with oversight of quality control, safety, and quality services, ensuring the department complies with all hospital and regulatory agency standards. Manages the work-flow processes required to accomplish the organization and department goals and objectives. Coordinates continuing education needs of the staff, reviews/revisions of policies, procedures and safety programs as needed. Recommends new services, capital equipment purchases and overall direction of the department. Ensures appropriate staffing levels, develops, and maintains a cohesive team that supports excellence in patient care and a collaborative work environment. Ensures services are delivered according to the scope of service for the Laboratory. Performs other duties as requested by the laboratory manager. Essential Functions: Quality & Direction -The Clinical Coordinator is a certified MLS/MLT and maintains their competencies with bench work as needed. -Assists in the planning and coordination of the department’s activities, operational efficiency, and staffing levels needed to promptly and effectively perform the procedures requested from the department. -Oversees the prioritized projects and directs resources to ensure the attainment of organizational goals, new program ideas, issues of importance. -Regularly examines and recommends alternative methods of providing required laboratory services to maximize operational efficiency and effectiveness of services. -Assists with maintaining safety in the department and institution; ensures compliance with safety standards and disaster plans; assists in the development of safety rules for the department. -Performs and/or assists in the evaluation of personnel, relative to performance, conduct, attendance, and adherence of departmental/hospital policies. -Assists in ensuring the department meets and adheres to all applicable federal and state regulatory requirements and for ensuring the department's success in any regulatory survey. -Looks to laboratory leadership for guidance when necessary. Personnel Leadership: -Provides leadership, role modeling, mentoring and direction to staff with a focus on employee morale and retention. -Addresses continuing education needs of the department. -Maintains appropriate documentation on staff as required by regulatory bodies. -Maintains all required records for the department and ensures that licenses are in compliance with the appropriate regulatory bodies. -Assists with coordinating the department's performance improvement indicators/studies and providing training to staff. -Develops, or assists in the development of, criteria-based performance evaluations standards for each position in the department. Revises performance standards as necessary. -Oversee the schedule and timecards, including nonclinical time. -Performs, or assures performance of, annual and 90 day evaluations, reviews applications and job descriptions, conducts interviews, organizes new hire orientation and delegates training, as needed. -Completes, or ensures completion of, new hire, six month, and annual competencies per regulatory requirements.
