About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Associate Director to lead our Analytics and Profit Management function for Wayfair’s Specialty Retail Brands: AllModern, Joss & Main, Birch Lane, and Perigold. This role is pivotal in ensuring the long-term profitability of our business by developing and executing effective pricing and investment strategies while also providing centralized leadership of key analytics functions. Based in our Boston office, you will oversee a team of three talented analysts with dotted line responsibilities for 5-6 additional individuals across partner functions (Promotions, Finance, Supplier Analytics, Business Trends, Operations, Merchandising Operations).

Key Responsibilities

  • Pricing and Profit Margin Optimization:
    • Develop and implement pricing strategies to achieve optimal long-term profit margins for the Specialty Retail Market.
    • Utilize levers such as margin setting, promotional pricing, and investment strategies to balance customer acquisition and profitability.
    • Drive specialty pricing initiatives to align with supplier and market dynamics.
  • Strategic Planning and Forecasting:
    • Partner with the Finance team to lead profitability planning and forecasting efforts, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
    • Contribute to scenario modeling and sensitivity analyses to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Analytics Agenda Setting and Leadership:
    • Decide the key business performance problems that need to be solved for the SRBs; Define end-to-end performance analytics roadmap, outlining the metrics and analyses needed to support strategic decision-making.
    • Establish functional KPIs and frameworks to facilitate progress, tracking and trade-off decision-making.
    • Leverage analytics and SRB business context to drive decisions while advancing a cohesive SRB strategy. Decisions include, but are not limited to, catalog curation + assortment strategy, promo strategy and event curation, supplier WSC sourcing / opportunity identification, exclusivity goals and opportunities.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Be the voice of the SRB business, working closely with Finance, Marketing, Merchant, and Supplier Partnerships teams to align on broader business goals, prioritize opportunities and drive action.
    • Partner with engineering and analytics teams to enhance pricing tools and systems for improved efficiency and accuracy.
  • Business Performance Monitoring:
    • Collaborate with the Business Trends team to monitor and evaluate overall business performance, identifying risks and opportunities.
    • Develop actionable insights from pricing performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and develop a high-performing team of analysts, both directly and through dotted line relationships, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
    • Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and enable professional growth within the team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven Experience:
    • 10+ years of experience in pricing, finance, or a related field, with a strong track record of driving profitability and leading teams.
  • Analytical Expertise:
    • Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to distill complex data into actionable insights.
  • Strategic Vision:
    • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex business challenges and drive results.
  • Leadership Skills:
    • Demonstrated success in leading and developing teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working across diverse teams and levels of an organization.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with e-commerce, retail, or consumer goods is a plus.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, GBQ, Excel) and desire to roll-up sleeves alongside highly technical analysts to guide, review and improve code.  
    • Experience with pricing or financial modeling tools is desirable.
