Summary:

Provides general maintenance and/or minor repairs to health department buildings and grounds and to do related tasks as required. Ensures that the building facilities have adequate heating, lighting and properly cleaned ventilation units that are in good working condition. Performs routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. Operates machinery, equipment and power tools on a regular basis. Arranges desks, files and other office equipment. Completes work orders for general facility upkeep, including minor carpentry, basic plumbing, painting, patching walls, hanging shelves and landscaping. Conducts preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and improve facility safety. Responds to urgent maintenance requests and troubleshoots issues as needed. Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations. Maintains accurate inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies. Coordinates with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs. Requisitions and acquires needed parts, tools and equipment for project repairs and completions. Performs facility audits, maintenance checklists and other related tasks as required.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A CLASS: ARE GENERAL STATEMENTS INDICATING THE LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY AND DISCRETION OF POSITIONS IN THAT JOB CLASSIFICATION. 

  • Responsible for the general maintenance and/or minor repairs to health department buildings and grounds and to do related tasks as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE COMPREHENSIVE STATEMENTS OF THE MINIMUM BACKGROUND AS TO EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS WHICH WILL BE REQUIRED IN ALL CASES AS EVIDENCE OF AN APPOINTEE'S ABILITY TO PERFORM THE WORK PROPERLY.

EDUCATION:

  • High School or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in general maintenance of other maintenance responsibilities that would include the ability to recognize electrical, plumbing and mechanical malfunctions or equipment failures.

SUBSTITUTION CLAUSE

EDUCATION:

  • Experience in general maintenance or other maintenance experience will substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Formal training or education in related fields will substitute on a year-for-year basis.

POST EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: EMPLOYEES IN THIS CLASS WILL BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN CREDENTIALS OUTLINED BELOW WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, OR IF EMPLOYEES POSSESS SUCH CREDENTIALS AT THE TIME OF HIRE THEY WILL BE REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN THOSE CREDENTIALS SO LONG AS THEY ARE EMPLOYED IN THIS CAPACITY.

  • Sees that the building has adequate heating, lighting and ventilation and that it is properly cleaned and in good working condition; Makes minor repairs and inspections of equipment; does general repairs such as painting, patching walls, hanging shelves and landscaping; Operates machinery and equipment; Arranges desks, files and other office equipment; Performs janitorial duties and other related tasks as required.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND UNIQUE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: INCUMBENTS IN THIS CLASSIFICATION WILL TYPICALLY PERFORM THEIR PRIMARY JOB DUTIES UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. THESE CONDITIONS MAY CHANGE ON OCCASION IN PERFORMING THE DUTIES OF AN INDIVIDUAL POSITION.

  • Work typically is spent in clinic or out door settings.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
