JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician provides a clean, safe, and professional environment for our patrons, guests, and staff by conducting building/maintenance repair programs that ensures the Conservatory’s equipment, property and grounds are in good working order. This role supports organizational goals, mission and values with a strong emphasis on customer service.
Additional Information: There are two full-time, non-exempt positions available. This position is eligible for the Conservatory's benefit package offered to full-time employees, which includes medical, dental and vision insurance, company paid Life/AD&D/Short-Term and Long-Term Disability insurance, participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement Program (OPERS), optional 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan, generous Paid Time Off (PTO), and complimentary membership to the Conservatory.
Compensation: $24/hour paid biweekly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administers and completes all work orders in a timely manner, such as painting, lighting and electrical, carpentry, plumbing, flooring and vehicle repair.
- Performs regular, routine equipment checks.
- Detects and diagnoses equipment problems and conducts in-house repairs.
- Orders and maintains inventory of materials and parts for maintenance needs.
- Coordinates contractor and inspection services when required.
- Conducts periodic equipment audits to record equipment trouble spots and the lifespan of equipment.
- Supervises event/exhibit electrical load management during major fundraisers and events as requested.
- Performs seasonal tasks such as winterizing and de-winterizing mechanical rooms and other equipment and exhibition installation and de-installation.
- Rotates schedule and serves “on call” when needed.
- Follows state and federal laws that address the safe use of equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned and demonstrates focus on serving the visitors and guests of the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or G.E.D; Associate’s degree in a technical capacity is preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Basic maintenance experience in electrical, plumbing, HVACs, carpentry, mechanical, lighting, painting, hot water boiler, and/or water features.
- Valid Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Basic knowledge of software programs (i.e. Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel).
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems.
- Ability to problem solve and diagnose equipment malfunctions.
- Ability to maintain and work with all types of hand tools, power tools, machinery, and other equipment.
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to frequently lift, carry or otherwise move materials weighing up to 50lbs.
- Occasionally operates lifts and ladders to ascend plant canopy for maintenance.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors year round under a variety of conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, high humidity and wet weather, dark and wet, underground, elevated on catwalks and on lifts as well as in tight spaces and noisy areas.
