PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hiring Salary: $30.64 - $38.30/hour

OVERVIEW OF JOB

The Water Utility Lead is responsible for leading field crews and performing skilled and semi-skilled work in the operations, maintenance, inspection, and repair of the sanitary sewer collection system for the Aurora Water Department Operations and Maintenance Division.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the field operations and the work activities of assigned crew for various wastewater related duties including pipeline cleaning, CCTV inspection and manhole repair
  • Resolves problems and conflicts
  • Assists in the training of Water Utility Workers
  • Maintains and enforces safety regulations, programs and policies and procedures
  • Responds to citizen complaints
  • Monitors and inspects equipment, machinery, and systems to determine need for repairs
  • Maintains records and makes recommendation to supervisors
  • Assists supervisor with coordination of preventive maintenance programs
  • Performs snow removal operations
  • Responds to wastewater and other emergencies
  • Oversees confined space entries
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education: 

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience: 

  • At least 3 years progressively responsible experience in operations and maintenance, repair and construction work associated with wastewater, stormwater, or water infrastructure.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Class B CDL with tanker endorsement
  • Colorado Class II Collection Operator or Colorado Class II Distribution Operator Certification or ability to obtain within reasonable time to be determined by department guidelines.

Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge and techniques associated with water utility maintenance
  • Thorough knowledge of hazards, practices, procedures, equipment and tool operation, systems, and processes common to wastewater operations and common safety practices and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of the City of Aurora
  • Technical knowledge of water utility systems
  • Knowledge of excavation and trenching, traffic control and confined space entry
  • Knowledge of the data management system INFOR

Skills: 

  • Skilled in the safe operation of specialized equipment
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools and equipment operation
  • Skilled in training and monitoring of assigned personnel
  • Skilled to recognize hazards and know the proper procedures for safe work operations

Abilities: 

  • Ability to understand complex instructions, specifications, and situations relative to job assignments
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, and citizens
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writi
