We are looking for an experienced AI Software Engineer to join our team and help shape the future of how Stylitics empowers AI models with the data, tools, and expertise they are missing out of the box. In this role, you’ll combine your expertise in data science, software engineering, and prompt design to drive innovation in AI model-based applications across various retail use cases and multiple clients. You’ll work fairly independently while connecting with cross-functional teams to prototype, test, and deploy unique solutions. This is a hands-on individual contributor role reporting directly to the CTO with high visibility and the opportunity to influence the way we build, monitor, and evaluate next-generation AI systems. • Contract role with the potential to convert to full-time employment
• Candidates must be within commuting distance of New York City, as the role requires ~50% in-office presence. Please note that Stylitics does not provide relocation assistance for this position.

What you will do

• Write production-level code in Java (with AI tools)
• Prompt engineering and testing with LLMs, including Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI models
• Context engineering to determine the right data
• Agentic workflow design
• Help us build systems to easily monitor and test LLM performance
• Analyze large data sets
• Design and implement solutions for scale and maintainability across multiple clients
• Contribute as a thought leader to conversations around LLM usage

Qualifications

• Software Development Experience (5+ years), with strong Java programming skills
• Experience with LLMs, testing, and prompt engineering, including work with Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI APIs
• Solid understanding of system design, scalability principles, use of APIs, and open source packages
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate model performance using structured test cases and metrics
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to operate independently with ambiguity in product definition

Great to haves:

• Working experience with building test workflows for LLMs
• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics
• Familiarity with additional programming languages such as Python for data processing or AI prototyping
