As an Engineer Database – Level 3 or Level 4 located in Redondo Beach, CA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Engineer to lead the design, modernization, and optimization of our high-consequence database environments in Redondo Beach, CA. In this role, you will own the full data lifecycle—from engineering high-availability virtualized SQL Server 2022 infrastructures to implementing cross-domain data solutions and supporting robust Earned Value Management (EVM) data warehousing systems. Serving as the vital bridge between complex business needs and secure technical execution, you will translate operational requirements into scalable data pipelines and high-performance Power BI analytics across isolated, multi-domain networks

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design and Model: Guide the logical and conceptual relationships of data and database changes for complex applications.
  • Analyze Systems: Evaluate the needs and requirements of existing and proposed data systems.
  • Provide Architecture Guidance: Recommend industry best practices for database tools, collaboration suites, and reusable architectural components.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage and influence key stakeholders to support core organizational objectives.
  • Translate Requirements: Interface directly with non-technical clients to translate business needs into technical data models.
  • Optimize Performance: Create standards and modeling practices to monitor and enhance the capacity of SQL and reporting servers.
  • Maintain Infrastructure: Monitor server loads, manage automated scripts, and execute advanced calculations on complex data sets.
  • Business Intelligence Support: Assist in developing Power BI dashboards to meet organizational goals.
  • Mentor Staff: Provide technical help, code reviews, and architectural guidance to junior development team members.
  • Project Ownership: Own long-term projects and rapidly iterate on visualizations and dashboards as business needs shift.
  • Virtualization & Clustering: Architect, manage, and maximize performance for virtualized Windows Server 2022 and SQL Server 2022 infrastructures, including Failover Cluster Instances (FCI).
  • Data Pipelines: Build and maintain ETL pipelines using SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or dbt.
  • Database Management: Design and manage relational and tabular databases across SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Cloud & Network Migration: Migrate on-premises SQL Servers to virtualized cloud ecosystems and transition complex systems across secure domains and networks.
  • Cross-Domain Engineering: Implement cross-domain data solutions across multiple secure networks.
  • EPM System Administration: Provide back-end administration for Deltek Cobra and wInsight, including data warehousing and integration with Microsoft Project data.
  • Data Protection: Manage automated backups, data retention policies, performance tuning, and disaster recovery plans.
  • COTS Maintenance: Transfer and install software updates for COTS tools (Empower, PowerBI Desktop/Report Server, Deltek Cobra, wInsight, EPM).
  • Other duties as assigned

This position can be filled at either a Level 3 or Level 4.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years
