Position Overview & PurposeThe Senior Accountant at LiveOak Fiber will have a crucial role within our Central Services/Accounting Department. This position is responsible for overseeing various accounting functions and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The primary purpose is to maintain accurate financial records, provide financial insights, and support the company's financial growth and stability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accounting Reporting:
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Assist in monitoring actual performance against budgeted figures and report on variances.
  • Support the CFO and Board by preparing and finalizing materials for the monthly close-out presentation.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable:
  • Manage the accounts payable and receivable coordinators, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions.
  • Oversee daily operations and provide regular updates to the Director.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • General Ledger Maintenance:
  • Maintain the general ledger by posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and performing month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Tax Compliance:
  • Assist in preparation of 1099’s, Occupational Tax Certificates, and Business Licenses.
  • Assist in tax planning and compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Audit Support:
  • Prepare and coordinate external audits, responding to auditor inquiries and requests.
  • Implement audit recommendations and improve internal controls.
  • Compliance and Regulation:
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, industry regulations, and company policies.
  • Keep abreast of changes in accounting regulations and make necessary adjustments.
  • Vendor Invoicing Processes:
  • Review and verify invoices from vendors to ensure accuracy in billing details such as dates, services provided, and amounts due.
  • Process invoices for payment by entering them into the company's accounting system, ensuring they are coded to the correct accounts and cost centers.
  • Maintain and update vendor records, including contact information, payment terms, and tax identification numbers, ensuring all records are accurate and up-to-date.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in financial software and accounting systems (e.g., Netsuite, Tipalti, Concur).
  • Understanding of procurement policies and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial records and reports.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial analysis roles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
  • Understanding of financial reporting.
  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Experience in the telecommunications or ISP industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial software and ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific accounting practices.
