Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Senior Associate Urban Designer or similar based in Dallas, Texas or Chicago, IL.
About Buildings + Places & Urbanism and Planning.
AECOM’s Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, business transformation, asset advisory, and other similar businesses.
It is also home to our Urbanism and Planning practice, a collaborative of designers, economists, data scientists, policy researchers, and social activists who are advancing an agenda of progressive city building. This position’s primarily responsibilities is to support our national efforts in leading urban design initiatives and to support the development and growth of our design studios.
Job Summary/Responsibilities
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Urban Designer for employment in the Dallas Office. AECOM is searching for candidates that can be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive.

This position will be responsible for:
Responsible for initiating and developing design drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project’s discipline engineers.
• Under minimal supervision, may develop complex urban design drawings.
• Applies a solid level of understanding within an urban design and architectural discipline.
• Understands codes, permits, and application processes related to the discipline.• Fully understands the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.
• Basic understanding of designer’s process of performing and verifying design calculations to support the overall project design.
• Basic understanding of planning codes including form based and performance based standards
• Basic understanding of objective design standards and how they are used to inform an urban design or architectural project
• Basic understanding and ability to identify new clients and pursue projects, write proposals, create teams for project responses and participate in project interviews for new work
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning or related plus eight (8) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Urban planning, Architecture, Urban Design or other related fields
More than eight (8) years of related work experience
Experience in mentoring junior staff
Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD, GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Rhino, or SketchUp is preferred along with hand drawing.
Ability to work conduct client meetings
Additional Information
- Offered rate of compensation (Illinois locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $149,000.
