Job Description:
The Armstrong Browning Library is home to the world’s largest collection of materials related to Victorian poets Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Baylor University students and faculty, as well as national and international scholars of the nineteenth century regularly visit the library to conduct research. The Library Services Student Assistant helps researchers access Armstrong Browning Library materials and supports the library’s efforts to increase the visibility of its collections.

The Library Services Student Assistant is responsible for: 
•   Dressing in “business casual” attire while at work (quick changes are allowed)
•   Greeting researchers
•   Registering researchers
•   Ensuring researchers sign-in and sign-out of the Belew Scholars’ Room
•   Assigning and providing access to lockers 
•   Answering initial questions about library use
•   Using video surveillance equipment to ensure the security of materials while they are in the Belew Scholars’ Room
•   Providing directional information for the 3rd floor and Elizabeth Barrett Browning Salon to building tourists

The Library Services Student Assistant may be asked to: 
•   Transcribe archival materials
•   Create inventories of archival collections 
•   Conduct background research on archival collections 
•   Fill out call slips for researchers and classes
•   Read rare book dealer and auction catalogs 
•   Demonstrate how to handle rare materials to researchers 
•   Other duties as assigned

General Qualifications:
•   Punctuality, reliability and responsibility a must
•   Initiative
•   Excellent attention to detail a must
•   Accurate keyboarding skills
•   Good spelling and grammar usage
•   High GPA desirable
•   Genuine interest in books and libraries desirable
•   Previous library work experience desirable

Additional Details: 
•   Provide general office assistance and support  
•   Greet clients and visitors with excellent customer service; answer inquiries and provide information 
•   Maintain files and reports and ensure confidentiality of information  
•   Assist with various projects, activities or tasks as needed  
•   Ability to comply with University policies  
•   Maintain regular and punctual attendance
