Position Overview

The R&D Intern will assist in the development and verification of NGS-based assays within the Product Development group.  The position is intended to be a full-time opportunity for a Bioinformatics, Bioengineering or Science undergraduate to obtain hands-on laboratory experience and data analysis skills by applying computational tools to biological data in an industry leading research group while contributing to the overall company goals.

This role is intended to be a full-time internship opportunity, during Summer 2025, onsite in San Diego.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with basic laboratory experiments
  • Assist with general laboratory duties
  • Assist with whole blood processing
  • Assist with DNA extraction methods
  • Assist with nucleic acid amplification methods
  • Assist in nucleic acid detection and quantitation methods
  • Assist with NGS-based assay evaluation, development and verification studies
  • Assist with NGS data analysis
  • Assist with other support duties as assigned
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Scheduling requirements:

  • Ability to work designated schedule.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
  • Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment towards Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in field of Life Sciences.
  • Preference giving to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Salary Range:

$37,000.00 - $59,000.00

 

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis.
