This is a full-time, direct placement role at Opening Specialists Inc.
Opening Specialists bring to the construction industry the experience and technical knowledge necessary to assist in the development, construction, and maintenance of the access points to new and existing facilities. We specialize in designing, supplying, installing, and servicing the doors, frames, and related hardware which make up the operable openings in a building. The openings must meet an owner's requirements for aesthetic appeal, be cost-effective during the life of the facility, provide adequate security to the perimeter of the building and to interior spaces, and allow the uninhibited flow of pedestrian traffic at the appropriate times. We assist in the design and implementation of systems and materials that conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as assisting to be sure that other applicable codes are adhered to. Opening Specialists work with the owners, design professionals, and builders in the process of providing the most cost-effective solutions to the problems associated with each project's unique total openings requirements. The overall success of a building project will be determined at the end of the building's useful life. Opening Specialists is determined to assure the owners that every building project will ultimately be judged a success. We achieve this goal by providing informed advice during the design stage, providing competitive prices for quality products during the bid phase, supplying those same quality products during the construction phase, and working with maintenance personnel to assuring that the products supplied will serve the owner throughout the life of the building.
We are looking for a very detailed oriented person able to read plans, be a team player, and have great customer service. Responsible for developing sales for OSI to produce enough revenue to cover the overhead and help keep the company viable. Duties include taking sales calls from customers, reviewing plans and specs to determine if it is a project that OSI can bid and if so, providing customer with an accurate bid in a timely manner. Duties also include pricing over-the-counter tickets for fellow employees and answering pricing questions for fellow employees. OSI primarily sells “Allegion” products, so familiarity with this line is a major plus. Salary depends on experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Review the contract documents and work with sales team to form strategies on what to bid and how to bid it.
• Responsible for being aware of new future building construction in the Dubuque area, follow the lead and determine if it is a project that OSI can bid.
• Answer Architects questions regarding hardware.
•Develop relationships with Architects and Contractors to sway them towards Opening Specialists with their needs.
• Design-Build projects with Contractors by developing hardware sets to fit their unique projects.
• Procure plans and specs for a project and correctly develop a bid from those plans and specs to bid the project in a timely manner.
• Manage risk by finding discrepancies in construction documents and sending out the proper request for information to obtain the correct answers.
• Prepare detailed take-off and estimates using a takeoff spreadsheet, including material, freight, engineering, and installation costs.
• Send out manufacturer’s quotes in a timely manner.
• Review fellow employees’ questions and quotations for correct verbiage and pricing.
Contractor Relationships Locally in Dubuque, we do a lot of work with contractors: Gronen, Conlon, Tricon, Epic, and Portzen
Territories: Iowa- Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Waukon. Tristate - Madison, WI and surrounding, and Galena, Elizabeth, and Stockton, IL
Software Avaware- estimating program. Will teach if not familiar with it.
Hours Office hours Mon-Fri 7 am-4 pm. Time is 90% in the office, maybe go to a job meeting as they grow could be more travel to territories they work in. As a salaried position, estimators are expected to work adequate hours to deliver bids on time.
