2. Position Summary:
Preserve public peace and order; protect persons and property; enforce Tribal, Federal and State laws; prevents crime; detect and apprehend law violators; promote public cooperation with law enforcement officers; perform emergency missions and otherwise serve and protect the Quapaw Nation of Oklahoma and the surrounding communities.
3. Essential Job Functions:
- Patrol on foot or with motor vehicle one or more areas of the jurisdiction to detect and prevent law violators.
- Constantly observe by sight or hearing persons, objects, and events in his/her vicinity.
- Inspect liquor-selling establishments, places of entertainment, motor vehicles and other situations involving a possibility of law violation or need for law enforcement aid.
- Interview people who might give useful information, such as suspects, and persons involved in incidents.
- Take risks and use firearms or other force, if necessary, to intervene and stop hold-ups, fights and other crimes in progress and to ensure that the arrested person is taken into custody.
- Guard public officials, prisoners, citizens in danger and various properties.
- Issue violation notices to individuals who have violated the laws or ordinances.
- Serve warrants, summons, subpoenas, notices and other processes.
- Searches for and protects evidence needed for prosecution of law violations.
- Accurately and concisely communicate information about incidents, escaping criminals and other law enforcement problems to other law enforcement officers, or to citizens, in order to summon aid or notify other persons to take proper action.
- Write reports describing significant details of his activities and of information coming to his attention.
- Accurately make and maintain various records of crimes, disturbances, and law enforcement actions.
- Testify in court. Present accurate information from memory, personal notes and other records, frequently long after the event on which testimony is given

Participate in various committees, round tables and other professional and community events as applicable.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment, as well as of applicable federal, tribal and state laws, ordinances and department rules and regulations.
- Skills in the use of police car, police radio, first aid equipment, personal computer including word processing software, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machine and other office equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors.
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally and to give verbal and written instructions.
