About you and this role:
Dow's Packaging & Specialty Plastics Process Automation Technology Center is seeking highly motivated Process Automation Managers. This role will support Dow's HP2/VPE LDPE/W&C Polyethylene or Dow's Catalyst assets in Seadrift, Texas.
The candidate will join the highly motivated skilled team working challenging process automation solutions locally and globally in North and South America and Europe. The Polyethylene business is one of the largest value creators in The Dow Chemical Company and continues expanding production facilities globally. Our plastics assets produce products that are on the cutting edge of technology and can be found in many everyday items including vinyl, blow-molding bottles, film, rigid containers, PVC plastics, siding, decks and rails, foam pipes and profile formulations, window frames and high-efficiency lubricants. As a Process Automation Manager, you will serve as a process automation focal point to maintain and optimize existing assets, while leading projects regionally and/or globally. We are looking for someone who can apply process automation skills, knowledge, and experience and in collaboration with other teams, including engineering, operations, maintenance, R&D, logistics, analytical, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Supports Dow's HP2/VPE Polyethylene LDPE/W&C or Catalyst assets in the daily activities, improving the process automation performance, including improvement projects, alarm management, control loop performance and Management of Change implementation.
- Programs control applications for various distributed control systems. Writes simulation applications to verify functionality of the control program and for training plant operators.
- Develops, tests and commissions Process Automation software and operator interface software to meet design criteria, utilizing the Process Automation Work Process
- Collaborates with engineering department process automation resources to design and execute projects. Applies Global Project Methodology (GPM) and Process Automation Work Process Discipline.
- Drives project execution within their discipline. Ensures that the project scope is well defined and meets the business needs in a cost-effective manner. Participates in project commissioning and startup activities, including tuning of control loops.
- Obtains basic knowledge of unit operations and Chemical Engineering fundamentals.
- Be a global project team member and design/deliver Process Automation strategies and control code by applying plant knowledge, work-process discipline knowledge.
- Participate regularly on multiple-function and multi-national teams. Utilize negotiating skills to resolve issues successfully to a win-win solution, and effectively resolve conflicts in area of responsibility.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering or related field is required.
- 5 years of experience in process automation, engineering, manufacturing, or related experience
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 10% annually (both domestic and/or internationally).
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledgeable with one or more process control platforms (ABB, Siemens, MOD5, Emerson, Delta V, Foxboro, Honeywell)
- Experience on polyethylene technology.
