Divisional Catholic Relations Coordinator (Part-Time) - Northwest Division

About the role

Providing essential services to field staff and volunteers. Offering this support frees field staff for direct ministry with kids, optimizes financial contributions, and ensures careful stewardship of the mission's assets (both tangible and intangible).

Essential Duties:

Spiritual Development

  • Pursue a growing relationship with God in Jesus Christ

  • Participate actively in a local Catholic parish community
  • Participate actively in the spiritual life of Young Life within the division

Leadership Development

  • Partner with regional directors and area directors in developing strategic and sustainable plans for engaging with Catholic communities in their regions/areas
  • Introduce Protestant Young Life staff to Catholic youth ministers who work in their Young Life regions/areas and encourage solid working relationships
  • Partner with regional directors and area directors to recruit, train and support Catholic staff and volunteers at the regional and area levels, building informal and formal leadership pipelines to help attract and engage Catholics
  • Recruitment may include:
  • participating in young Catholic professional groups
  • reaching out to college Newman Centers, Catholic campus ministries
  • bringing Catholic adults as guests to Young Life camps
  • taking potential Catholic leaders to work week opportunities at camps
  • Work with regional directors and area directors to encourage new Young Life, WyldLife, YoungLives and Capernaum ministries in Catholic settings
  • Advocate for Young Life in Catholic dioceses, parishes and schools (K-8 and high school) to encourage new Young Life, WyldLife, YoungLives and Capernaum ministries
  • Advocate for YoungLives with local and regional Catholic Respect Life chapters

Resource Development

  • Raise a portion of personal budget as agreed upon with the SVP and Catholic Relations director
  • Maintain regular communication with donors
  • Assist with grant applications that would help fund Young Life internships for Catholic staff and volunteers

Direct Ministry

  • Work in partnership with senior vice president and Catholic Relations director to lead the Catholic Relations initiative in the division
  • Serve as a member of the Divisional Leadership Team alongside regional directors and other divisional leaders; attend divisional and Catholic Relations staff times and retreats
  • Provide training and provide access to national training to help Protestant Young Life staff and volunteers learn about the Catholic faith tradition and how best to minister to students who identify as Catholic
  • Assist in implementing national Young Life Catholic initiatives within the division and engage Young Life staff in the division to participate in any national Catholic Relations gatherings, such as the biennial Young Life Catholic Summit
  • Ensure that Young Life camps within the division are aware of best practices to help give Catholic staff and volunteers a sense of belonging in the mission
  • Administration
  • Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives; review them on a regular basis
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone within the scope of ministry.
  • Maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management, adhering to all Young Life policies and procedures.
  • Develop an appropriate system for reporting expenses using Young Life accounting applications

Qualifications Required for the Job:

  • Commitment to a growing relationship with Christ
  • Ability to clearly communicate the gospel and train others accordingly
  • Ability to clearly communicate Young Life’s mission, the vision for Young Life Catholic Relations, the Catholic faith tradition, and the call of the new evangelization as it pertains to Young Life ministries
  • Proven relational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Past or current involvement/employment with a Young Life ministry
  • Past or current involvement/employment in a Catholic parish; youth ministry experience preferred
  • Past or current employment at a Catholic diocese; office of youth and young adults or office of evangelization and catechesis preferred
  • Occasional travel required
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree/seminary degree is a plus.
