POSITION OVERVIEW: A short description of the general purpose of the position
The Project Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of projects within the organization. This role ensures accurate project cost tracking, revenue recognition, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with project managers, finance teams, and leadership to provide timely and accurate financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: the main duties and tasks the role is expected to perform
Financial Oversight & Cost Control:
• Collaborate with Construction Managers to ensure understanding of project expenses, risks, and opportunities.
• Monitor and communicate budget status, actual expenditures, scope adjustments, and revenue forecasts across labor, expenses, and subcontracting costs.
• Review GC cost tracking reports and reconcile actual costs with GMP/Schedule of Values.
Contract & Document Administration:
• Manage retention, T&Cs, insurance, allowances, contingency, and incentives.
• Track key project documents, including change orders, invoices, payments, and lien releases.
• Attend and lead change control and cost meetings as required.
Reporting & Analysis:
• Develop and maintain internal financial reporting packages to support monthly Pay Applications.
• Prepare progress reports and provide insights on project performance, schedule, and cost variances.
• Assist with quarterly and fiscal year-end analysis and confirmations on project status.
Collaboration & Support:
• Work closely with construction teams to provide financial guidance and ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Support audits and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS: experience, education, and attributes that are required or preferred for the job
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in forecasting, cost reporting, change management, accruals, and earned value.
• Strong understanding of cost control principles and project accounting practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite; experience with Microsoft Project preferred.
• Real estate or construction industry experience is a plus.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
