LDA - Associate Director of Transdisciplinary Programs: Institute for Climate and Community Resilience - UTK

The Associate Director of Transdisciplinary Programs (ADTP) supports the efforts of the Institute for Climate and Community Resilience (ICCR). The ADTP reports to the director of the ICCR and develops, coordinates, and implements the institute's scholarly programs. The ADTP directly supports ICCR efforts to increase funding and innovate programming through external grants and program initiatives that advance climate science and resilience scholarship at the university.

• Plans and executes ICCR events, working closely with ICCR leadership and the College of Arts and Sciences
• Identifies new event and programming opportunities and new collaborative partnerships to increase the visibility of the ICCR
• Organizes and facilitates a community of scholars, including participant recruitment, communications, and program development
• Plans, coordinates, and implements ICCR research programming to design meaningful, creative, inclusive programs
• Maintains knowledge of the ICCR's funding sources and proactively monitors funding opportunities to find new sources relevant ICCR researchers
• Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with community groups relevant to the institute's researchers
• Manages internal and external communications, including website, listserv, and public relations opportunities
• Drafts annual programming report and accompanying presentation for advisory board
• Works with college and university financial managers to develop and administer program budgets, and provides regular reports to the Director
• Submits proposals to grant agencies and foundations in order to secure external funding
• Works with ICCR and university staff to enter grant and contract data into appropriate University systems to ensure the accuracy of event contracts and grant proposals, compliance, and budgets and to ensure completion of grant projects, track award expenditures and payments, and complete contracts
• Ensures programs adhere to their budgets and provides reports regularly to ICCR Director concerning program expenditures
• Helps ICCR Director prepare annual budget in relation to programming needs
• Works with ICCR staff to gather, compare, and analyze data including follow-up event reports and participant surveys to make recommendations for future operations of programs
• Gathers, analyzes, and synthesizes data on climate resilience programming trends and grant opportunities to support new ICCR programs
• Gathers, analyzes, and synthesizes data on existing programs to create reports for grants agencies and ICCR program reviews
• Conducts needs assessments among faculty, students, and public stakeholders to maximize ICCR programming and event impact
• Maintains accurate program records: records and compiles data concerning program expenditures and awards, and gathers data and compiles program and operational reports
• Prepares for external reviews by ensuring programs meet record-keeping requirements based on professional and university standards

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in climate science, environmental justice, or related field

Experience: 5 years of combined administrative and/or research experience

• Excellent oral and written communications skills with a high standard of professionalism

• Ability to understand and interpret federal, state, and nonprofit funding regulations and policies
• Ability to research and identify funding sources for climate science and resilience work
• Ability to be successful in grants application and management
• Ability to navigate complex relational dynamics with a variety of stakeholders
• Organizational and strategic skills necessary to develop and sustain multiple complex projects simultaneously and meet deadlines while maintaining quality
