Principal Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) / Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC) Test Engineer

V2X is growing! V2X is looking for a Principal Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) / Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC) Test Engineer to join our team! 

V2X is seeking a skilled and experienced Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) / Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC) test engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team located in Indianapolis, IN.  This position is responsible for the daily management of the Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility (EMI/C) lab.  Primary responsibilities will include setup and conducting of testing to support multiple program objectives for military hardware, providing technical support for said testing, and assisting in the generation of technical documents, such as test procedures and process instructions, with the support of subject matter experts.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in supporting MIL-STD-461 testing for Department of Defense applications, as well as expertise in designing and implementing EMI/EMC tests for various products and systems. The

successful candidate will possess technical ability in the development, design, and test verification capabilities.  The candidate will also possess expertise in developing test specifications for equipment under test and troubleshooting the associated equipment under test.  This includes supporting multiple military programs.  The successful candidate will be detail oriented, organized, self-starting, capable of multi-tasking, and working effectively with other test engineers and integrated product team members.

Responsibilities:

• Own and operate the EMI/EMC test laboratory, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
• Design and implement EMI/EMC testing plans for a wide range of products and systems.
• Conduct tests in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
• Analyze test data to identify potential issues and recommend solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
• Maintain calibration status of pertinent EMI/EMC test equipment.

Required Skills:

• Minimum 5 years of EMI/EMC testing experience with strong technical background.
• High degree of experience/familiarity using bench top test equipment (DMM, Oscilloscope, Function Generator, Signal Generator, Frequency Counter, Power Meter, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer).
• Comfortable using basic hand tools used for most repairs.
• Advanced ability in reading and generating schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Proven ability and willingness to use analytical tools to analyze and simulate hardware testing methods prior to program execution.
• High degree of experience/familiarity with HW/SW integration and test processes and procedures.
• Advanced MS office skills (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
• Experience/familiarity with MIL-STD-461G and associated testing (e.g., CE, CS, RE, RS).
• Ability to interface with persons of multiple disciplines and job functions, including test software engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, program managers, production personnel, and outside vendors.
• Ability to work in a process-oriented organization.
• Ability to understand and utilize configuration management practices.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and apply decision making skills with minimal supervision.
• Detail oriented, organized, self-starting, capable of multi-tasking, and team player are all required skills for this role.

Desired Skills:

• Background in digital, analog, and RF theory is a strong plus.
• Demonstrated experience in solving EMC test non-compliances.
• Experience with environmental testing equipment and procedures is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to proactively identify alternate solutions to overcome difficult technical challenges.
• Proven ability to decompose product requirements to test requirements, and ability to properly trace requirements to a test procedure or test system specification is a strong plus.
• Proven ability to function as a Test Lead is strongly desired.
• Advanced degree is a plus.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related STEM field.
