Geotechnical Engineering Intern | Peoria, IL
Join IMEG as a Geotechnical Engineering Intern in Peoria, IL, and get hands-on with the science of what’s beneath our feet. Over 10–12 weeks, you’ll rotate between fieldwork, lab testing, and design—sampling soils, running analyses, and helping solve real-world foundation and infrastructure challenges. You’ll work side-by-side with experienced engineers, gain exposure to cutting-edge equipment and software, and see your contributions shape projects from concept to construction. Along the way, you’ll build technical skills, professional connections, and confidence that will set you apart as you launch your geotechnical engineering career.
Principal Responsibilities
Assist with field and laboratory testing under senior staff direction
Document field and laboratory testing results
Support engineering analysis, design, and field inspections
Help develop routine reports
Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while tracking progress
Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final checks
Required Qualifications and Skills
Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil
Engineering, or equivalent required
Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Strong attention to detail
May be required to assist with field duties such as survey, geotechnical drilling, pavement coring and materials testing
Strong interest in geotechnical engineering
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs and CAD software
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
