Salary Range: $52,132.00 - $78,198.00.  This is a non-exempt position.  Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. The Elections office is responsible for conducting all elections held in Mecklenburg County. Locally, we administer State election laws. Our principal functions include establishing election precincts and voting sites, appointing, and training precinct officials, preparing, and distributing ballots, voting equipment, canvassing, and certifying the ballots cast in elections, and investigating any voting irregularities. We maintain voter registration for Mecklenburg County and provide public information on voters and elections.

Position Specific Information

This position will report to the Board of Elections Office located at 3205 Freedom Dr. Charlotte, NC  28208. This is a warehouse position.

Work Schedule – Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm daily, with some nights and weekends as needed in advance of and during active Election Cycles

Responsible for maintaining and updating registration records, including new registrations and making transfers, name and affiliation changes, removal of deceased persons, cancellations; challenges and file maintenance as required by state and federal statutes.  


Position Summary

Perform technical procedures to ensure timely and accurate elections. This position, under minimal supervision, reviews information for precinct locations, maintains and updates precinct officials’ database, monitors the accuracy of the voter database, applies federal and state election laws and State Board of Election’s guidelines, follows changes in election law and guidelines and adjusts procedures accordingly.

Essential Functions

Maintain accurate data records by responding to voter requests submitted through electronic or hard-copy forms
Respond to information provided by other government entities’ reports in accord with State Board of Elections policies
Communicate with other NC counties electronic via email or through the statewide elections system
Refer requests from other states to the appropriate entity at the State Board of Elections
Respond to voter questions and requests for information verbally and in writing
Print and mail correspondence to voters whose requests are missing key information, and process the voter responses
Work as a member of elections call center (early voting and election day), responding to inquiries and logging resolutions in call center module
Understand all aspects of early voting and election day procedures, including use of the Precinct Automation Device, DS200, ExpressVote, etc.
Plan for elections by preparing and proofing poll book materials, attending and/or conducting required trainings
Meet tight post-election deadlines prior to Canvass by sorting and organizing provisional ballots, conducting extensive and thorough research
Identify process improvements and work with a multi-disciplinary team to streamline workflow
Liaison to various government agencies which may include US Postal Service, Probation/Parole Officers, US Attorney’s Office


Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 
Minimum of four years of experience in a business environment

Education: 
Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Office Administration, or related field.

Licenses and Certifications

Participate in the state certification courses conducted by the NC State Board of Elections

North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License Required
