About this Role
Carrier is looking for talented and motivated engineers who will be a part of Carrier’s Innovation Hub Americas, to enable the development of innovative and novel Energy technologies in HVAC&R (Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration) applications. Innovation Hub Americas is in Syracuse, which is the North American center for Carrier’s product design and development, as well as groundbreaking innovative research. We ideate, design, verify and validate new products and technologies across Carrier’s global portfolio, supporting Carrier’s goal to be the global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
This staff research engineer will be part of the team working on the development of novel energy management systems (EMS) in support of Carrier’s plan to develop the next generation of intelligent energy solutions. Their focus will be on maturing early-stage technologies as relevant to electrical and/or mechanical systems that enable electrification and energy management. They would be responsible for design, testing, and validation of these novel EMS systems leading to technology maturation for product insertion.
Key Job Responsibilities
Develop, design and validate alternatives to the current status quo in EMS+HVAC technologies and associated systems considering all aspects of the system such as architecture, performance, components and materials selection, cost, manufacturability, safety, regulatory compliance and reliability.
Develop Energy Management System architectures with novel technologies using analytical and model-based design tools and methodologies.
Identify risks and develop mitigation plans by working with multidisciplinary teams, SMEs and stakeholders to drive and implement appropriate risk reduction methodologies.
Design at-scale experimental setups for demonstrating performance and risk mitigation while ensuring that the critical characteristics and timelines are met.
Validate multiscale model-based predictions through experimentation and analysis.
Develop technology value proposition by analyzing system performance against KPIs such as load capacity, efficiency, reliability etc. while meeting initial and operational cost targets.
Develop robust IP strategies to patent new technologies and ensure our freedom to practice.
Support the identification, creation and growth of disruptive technology project pipelines, aligned with themes energy management.
Review journals, patents and publicly available data to synthesize technical feasibility and risks, as well as propose strategies.
Collaborate and coordinate with global team members, other functions with Carrier and external partners/universities.
